Welcome to the Southampton Football League

About the League.

A number of teams existed in the area playing unofficial League matches for a number of years until it was agreed that a more organised approach was required. On 13th April 1908 Southampton FA was formed at the Wareham Arms in Southampton from a group of existing Clubs.

The first Senior League was won by Bitterne Guild who were a force in those early years; they were double winners that season also winning the SFA A Cup. Since then a host of teams have progressed through the League set up. Many now higher up the Pyramid.

From season 1993-94 the Association became a parent body to the various Saturday and Sunday Leagues in the area relinquishing direct responsibility for running the League.

The Junior Trophy was the first League Cup competition to take off with Roy Wightman having donated the present Cup. The Plate Competition starting soon after for teams knocked out in the early stages of the Trophy with Locksley Sports the inaugural winner. The Plate is currently played in recognition of former Registration Sec. Ron Vallance.

The Veterans Trophy was first played for as the Challenger Trophy in 1999 with Ordnance Survey winning it on three occasions including that first competition. This competition is now the Eastleigh Referees Association Veterans Cup.
Brendon were the first winners of the Senior League Cup which was donated by Trophyman in 2002 with Mottisfont and Lyndhurst also having won this prestigious Trophy.

We thank Drew Smith Group for their continued sponsorship of the League and remain committed to providing Team of the Month awards for teams with good disciplinary records as well as good playing records. Please click on the logo below to visit thier website.
